Florentine Codex: Table of Contents

The Historia general de las cosas de Nueva España is one of the most important sources on pre-Columbian Mexico that exists, as well as being a significant example of Nahuatl literature dealing with a wide variety of topics, and the Florentine Codex is the most famous manuscript of it. The full text was recently made available online at the World Digital Library, but it’s currently not easy to find what’s in it, or even know what’s there to be found, so I’m going to post a table of contents here with links to the pages on WDL. Even then, it’s still only available in Spanish and Nahuatl (and with no OCR*). If you want English you have to look at physical books.

*Update: apparently some (inaccurate!?) transcriptions of the Nahuatl text, with Spanish translations, have been published in Estudios de Cultura Náhuatl and put online in pdf form. I’ve added links to these after the WDL scans, with the text “(ECN)”, since they might be useful to somebody.

I haven’t read the entire thing from cover to cover, and the English names I’ve given to each section were just put together quickly and might be unrepresentative of the actual contents in some cases. In some cases I haven’t bothered to add one at all yet.

If you’d like to see a post looking at a particular section in more detail, or to list the contents of a section better, just ask.
